In small groups analyse the influence education may have on girls’ and women’s lives.

Globally, 1 in 5 girls is denied an education because of violence, poverty and social or religious discrimination.

A girl who graduates from a secondary school:
• May not experience domestic violence in the future – a survey conducted in India confirms that the more educated women are, the less domestic violence they are exposed to.
• May not marry and have children while she’s still a child.
• May be healthier and may survive until adulthood and so may her children. This is thanks to health education at school.
• May break the cycle of poverty by investing her income into her family and community. She may also get a better job.
• May understand her basic rights and defend them.
